Racing team

The racing teams of Fraglia Vela Riva are primarily Optimist and Laser class and are overseen by a staff of highly qualified technicians and instructors. Year after year the young teams continue to add to Fraglia Vela Riva's gold medal board with achievements in national and international competition.

History

The term fraglia is thought to have come from Venetian-Istrian dialect meaning guild, which could prove its association with marine and sport. Another hypothesis is that it is a contraction of the voices fratellanza and famiglia in mediaeval monastic Latin. Whatever the case it inspired d'Annunzio to name Fraglia della Vela the new independent section of the generic Fraglia Atletica Benacense.

Board of directors

Fraglia Vela Riva has been awarded the Stella d'Oro al Merito Sportivo (the gold star merit in sport). This award, established in 1933 by CONI, was presented to Fraglia for its 50 years of commitment and promotion of sport. This achievement is thanks to the dedication and passion shown by directors and staff over the years who have made Fraglia Vela Riva a success.

Harbour and CLUBHOUSE

Fraglia Vela Riva has in concession from the Provincia Autonoma di Trento the stretch of water directly in front of the club, which provides 100 berth places for inshore and offshore boats on the two outer piers. Another fifty spaces are available on the newly restructured Spiaggia degli Ulivi (Olive Tree Beach), which is exclusively reserved for race participants.

Guinness World Records

The sailing boat for the record was the Optimist, a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by children up to the age of 15. Youngsters aged from the age of 9 to 14 years old, coming from 27 different countries took place in the regatta. Naturally Italy has the largest representation with 332 entrants followed by Germany with 235 and Denmark 69. Also present Australia, Bermuda and The U.S. Video >>
