From the Optimist...
to bigger things
Fraglia Vela Riva has always had competitive juvenile racing teams on the national and international circuits, in particular the Laser and Optimist classes. This is due to an intensive training programme followed over the last few years. One of Fraglia’s primary goals is to build larger and more technically prepared teams year on year. In its history the club has attracted many youngsters to the world of sailing, who have achieved numerous racing awards.
The Optimist, as in the Laser class, has achieved great accolades: Italian Championships, The President’s Cup, The European Team Championships, The Cadet Cup and Primavela are all prizes won by the high achieving Optimist Competitive team and of course the brilliant Cecilia Zorzi who won both the National and World Championships in the juvenile Laser class. All these results give pride and lustre to the Fraglia colours.
Our greatest joy, however, is to see our young Optimists progress to the under 19 and Olympic classes. For many years the athletes of Fraglia Vela Riva have always been represented in the national teams and the technical staff works with determination and dedication to ensure that this continues.
Technical staff
The training programme for the Optimist class is co-ordinated Mauro Berteotti and Santiago Lopez.
This year Fabio Zeni joins the coaching staff at Fraglia Vela Riva. Having spent many years in the Olympic classes, he will now be working with Fraglia’s racing teams. He will be a valuable addition to our staff considering the number of youngsters involved in our racing teams of various classes and their consequent events both national and international.
Over the years, Zeni has been a great asset to Fraglia through his racing achievements and will continue to be so both as sailor and now as coach.
