Coppa Primavale and Coppa del Presidente, Fraglia Vela Riva grabs two silver medals
Gaeta – Over the past weekend, Gaeta hosted the Kinder Joy of Moving Coppa Primavela, one of Italy’s most prestigious youth sailing events, during which the Coppa del Presidente was also awarded.
Among the standout performers was the Fraglia Vela Riva Racing Team, coached by Federico Fornasari and accompanied to Gaeta by Fraglia Vela Riva President Chiara Carloni, who served as head of delegation.
After five races, the young sailors from the Riva-based club delivered an excellent overall performance. In the highly competitive Coppa Primavela Cadet fleet, Carlo Broilo recovered from a difficult start to secure an impressive silver medal behind Pietro Marziano. Andrea Radaelli matched that result in the Coppa del Presidente Cadet division, putting together a consistent and convincing series to finish second only to Giorgio Paonessa.
Encouraging performances also came from Martino Bertani and Angelina Zanon, while fellow Cadets Aaron Mutshlechner, Giulia Zanoni and Tomaso Vanzi all showed steady progress throughout the event.
“It was a great regatta and the team performed extremely well, demonstrating the confidence and awareness they have developed throughout the season. Andrea Radaelli, in particular, has improved tremendously and earned a well-deserved second place. Congratulations to Giorgio Paonessa, who sailed an outstanding regatta, but we are confident that by continuing to work as we have done so far, we will be able to challenge and eventually beat him. Carlo Broilo also sailed very well, finishing second in one of his first major regattas against the full 2017 age group. He showed excellent race awareness and remarkable self-confidence. It’s a pity that a mistake in the opening race ultimately cost him the chance to fight for victory, but we are absolutely delighted with his result, which marks his first podium finish. As for our 2016 sailors, despite the lack of top results, I saw determination, commitment and clear progress. They are definitely moving in the right direction,” said Federico Fornasari, coach of the Fraglia Vela Riva Optimist Cadet Racing Team.
“It was an incredible experience. I owe this result to my coaches, Federico Fornasari and Marco Giangrande. I’d also like to thank Fraglia Vela Riva and my teammates, who constantly push me during training and have taught me how to react even in the most difficult situations. Finding out that I had finished on the podium made me incredibly happy,” commented Andrea Radaelli after the prize-giving ceremony.
“I’m really happy. I wanted to finish among the top sailors, and taking second place is a great achievement. I want to celebrate this result with my coaches, Federico Fornasari and Marco Giangrande, who always support us with incredible patience and passion. Knowing I can always rely on their advice, as well as on the support of my teammates, is what really makes the difference,” added Carlo Broilo.
“Accompanying our young sailors to regattas, watching them enjoy the sport, grow as athletes and become increasingly independent in pursuing their competitive goals is always a rewarding experience. The trip to Gaeta was even more special thanks to the outstanding results achieved by these young sailors, who represent the future of Fraglia Vela Riva’s sailing programme” concluded Fraglia Vela Riva President Chiara Carloni.
