The 29er European Championship is officially open
Riva del Garda – The 29er European Championship, an event hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva, officially opened late this afternoon, when, preceded by the band, over five hundred sailors gathered in Piazza III Novembre, in front of the Riva del Garda Town Hall, to attend the opening ceremony. The event counts on 251 entries coming from 29 Countries.
This was the first formal act of this important event, reserved for specialists in this youth double, preparatory to the transition to Olympic classes such as Nacra 17 and 49er, standard or FX. and for this reason particularly popular and widespread at a global level.
This is not the first time that Fraglia Vela Riva has hosted the International 29er Class Association; in fact, for some time now the leaders of the class have chosen Alto Garda to host the finals of the competitive Eurocup circuit. An event that will be repeated this year towards the end of October.
Scheduled to last six days, the 29er European Championship will be equally divided into three days dedicated to qualifications and three reserved for the trials valid for the final phase. The event will end on July 8th, when the awards ceremony is scheduled.
The PRO, as well as president of the International 29er Class Association, Peter Lubeck will coordinate the operations, while Niall Macleod has been called to preside over the International Jury.
“For Fraglia Vela Riva it is a true honor to host a reference event for youth sailing such as the 29er European Championship. An event that, judging by the extraordinary participation recorded, has numbers and scope almost of a World Championship. A heartfelt thanks goes to the volunteers and all the collaborators who, for days now, have been working hard to ensure the best success of the event. It is an event that will remain in the memory of those who take part for a long time, and which already represents an important opportunity for the territory, with over 6,000 total estimated attendances and a significant economic impact. Furthermore, Riva del Garda and the whole of Garda Trentino will be able to count on exceptional visibility over the next six days, thanks to the coverage on numerous websites and the main social channels” commented the president of Fraglia Vela Riva, Andrea Camin.
