EurILCA Europa Cup, finals are on in Riva del Garda
Riva del Garda – The EurILCA Europa Cup 2026 event organized by Fraglia Vela Riva is heading towards its conclusion. After three days of racing and the start of the Final Series today, all fleets have completed six valid races and will rely on tomorrow’s final day to complete the schedule.
Today proved to be the most challenging afternoon weather-wise since the beginning of the event. Despite the difficult conditions, the Race Committees led by Giuliano Tosi and Marcello Montis, under the supervision of PRO Zlatko Jakelic, successfully completed the two scheduled races, with the second one finished just before the wind faded away completely.
Today’s results, the first produced by the Gold fleets and therefore by direct competition among the top sailors from the qualification stage, reshuffled some of the standings. In the ILCA 7 fleet, France’s Alexandre Kowalski remains in the lead after scoring two race wins. Behind him, Oskar Madonich moves up one position. The Ukrainian sailor now holds a three-point advantage over Israel’s Omer Vered Vilenchik, who endured a difficult day on the water. On the eve of the decisive races, scheduled to start tomorrow at 12:00 PM, fourth and fifth places are occupied by France’s Lorenzo Mayer and Italy’s Kenje Sam Werpers.
Emma Mattini continues to dominate the ILCA 6 Women’s fleet. With five victories from the six races sailed so far, she enjoys a commanding lead over second-placed Nicol Segnini and third-placed American sailor Isabela Cabezas Mendoza. Marina Murri and Zofia Wojcik complete the top five.
In the ILCA 6 Men’s fleet, Lorenzo Ghirotti has extended his lead significantly, increasing the gap over his closest rivals. Dutch sailor Alexander Hartsink remains second but is now five points behind the Fraglia sailor, while Henk Manuel Vos of Fraglia Vela Malcesine sits eleven points off the lead.
In the ILCA 4 fleet, Enrico Morina, who had dominated the opening stages of the event despite already carrying a UFD penalty, dropped down the standings after being scored BFD today. As a result, Fraglia Vela Riva’s Marco Emanuele Aloisi takes over the overall lead. Behind him are UAE representative Simoen Hristov and Leandro Scialpi, who also races for the Via Maroni-based club. Worth highlighting is the outstanding performance of Sofia Berteotti: the Fraglia Vela Riva sailor is currently the top-ranked female competitor and sits an impressive sixth overall.
The EurILCA Europa Cup 2026 event currently underway in Riva del Garda will conclude tomorrow afternoon with the prize-giving ceremony at the Fraglia Vela Riva clubhouse.
