Chiara Carloni is the new President of Fraglia Vela Riva
Riva del Garda – On Saturday, April 11, the members of Fraglia Vela Riva met to renew the Board of Directors, which will be responsible for managing the activities of the club, one of the most active and well-known internationally, earning the World Sailing Development Award, for the next four years.
Renewing members include Paolo Benini Floriani, Gianfranco Busana, Carlo Demurtas, Matteo Grossi, Paolo Matteotti, and Nicola Zanoni. New members include Laura Branz, Chiara Carloni, who received the most votes from members with a total of 136 votes, and Ciro Giampiero Mercurio, who is returning to the board.
During its first meeting, the Board, taking into account the overwhelming public consensus, elected Chiara Carloni as President, the first woman to hold the position in the nearly 100-year history of the club located on Via Giancarlo Maroni.
An engineer, a member of Fraglia Vela Riva since childhood and a former student at the Sailing School then led by Norberto Foletti, Chiara Carloni was surprised by the unexpected outpouring of support: “I wasn’t expecting such support: I thank the members and the Board for believing in me enough to entrust me with the presidency. In taking over from Andrea Camin, who has concluded a successful four-year term for the club, I feel a mixture of pride and enthusiasm. I’m aware, as this is my first experience of this kind, that I have a lot to learn, and I’m happy to be able to count on the experience of a Board that has been leading our great club for several years now. Activities for young people, an area in which Fraglia has always excelled, will be among my priorities.”
Andrea Camin, who led Fraglia Vela Riva from 2022 until Saturday afternoon, wished Chiara Carloni good luck.
