Alp Alpagut (FVR) wins the ILCA 6 silver medal at the ILCA Master Worlds 2025
Riva del Garda – Alp Alpagut’s participation in the ILCA Masters World Championship in Formia concluded with a silver medal, which, all things considered, was the most attended edition ever. Competing in the ILCA 6 Masters, Alp Alpagut, a Fraglia Vela Riva sailor racing for Turkey, took second place overall, winning three of the nine races held in mostly light winds. England’s Jon Emmett took the win, followed by Italy’s Roberto Giacalone.
“It was the most attended edition of the ILCA Masters World Championship ever, organized in an exemplary manner both on the water and on land: over four hundred and fifty athletes from thirty to eighty-nine years old, thirty-eight nations represented and three separate fleets,” explains Alp Alpagut, who adds, “The championship, which was supposed to last six days, ended up being seven because the light wind and rain forced us to use the rest day as well. In the end, we completed nine races, only one of which had double-digit winds and the others with very light breezes: very tactical and challenging conditions, especially for me, who had not been to a Masters World Championship for eleven years. My performance was helped by my preparation, which I had taken care of by taking part in the Italia Cup in Riva del Garda and the Italian Championship in Acquafresca. The training I did with the ILCA team from Fraglia Vela Riva, coached by Mauro Berteotti, was crucial. Second place is a satisfying result, but I know I have room for improvement and I intend to continue to sailing, participating in at least one ILCA Masters main event per year.”
“Congratulations to the super Alp, a great example of tenacity, determination, and passion for all our guys. It’s always a pleasure to collaborate with him, both on land and in the water, and we’re proud to have him as a member… and if there had been a few more knots of wind, I’m convinced things would have gone even better,” commented Mauro Berteotti, Technical Director of Fraglia Vela Riva.
Fraglia Vela Riva’s 2025 Racing Season is supported by Suzuki, SLAM, Negrinautica, ITAS Assicurazioni, Rothoblass, and Garda Trentino.
