The ClubSwan 28 fleet is in Riva del Garda to make its debut on a lake
Riva del Garda – The spotlight is on Fraglia Vela Riva, which, between today and Saturday, hosts the first edition of the Swan Lake Garda Challenge, the third seasonal event of the ClubSwan Racing Nations League, an international circuit reserved for one-design boats built by Nautor Swan.
This is an exclusive for the club based on Via Giancarlo Maroni, as for the first time, the ClubSwan 28s, the latest one-design boats from Nautor Swan, will race on inland waters, in what promises to be an exciting and competitive event. This will be made possible by the synergy between the Fraglia Vela Riva on-water team, led as usual by Fausto Maroni, and the event’s PRO, Bill O’Hara.
After the Bonifacio and Porto Cervo stages, the overall Nations League standings are currently led by Marcello (FRA), owned by Philippe Ligot. Just three points behind is Play Bigger (USA), helmed by Al Ramadan, while Swing (JPN), helmed by Keisuke Suzuki, fresh from his Gold Cup victory in Porto Cervo, is third.
Eight boats will compete in this Garda event, representing seven nations and with over forty sailors from ten countries on board. In addition to the top teams, the lineup includes: Giulio Gatti’s Anya (ITA); Lorenzo Bortolotti’s Black Swan (MON); Marcus Brenneke’s Hatari (GER); and Frank Winter’s Isabella (GER). Both Hatari and Isabella, who tested the ClubSwan 28 at the Primo Cup in Monaco, are now returning to the class for their Nations League debut. The Swan Lake Garda Challenge will also mark the entry of Fra Martina, helmed by Edoardo Pavesio with tactics by Diogo Cayolla, into the ClubSwan 28 fleet.
“For ClubSwan, bringing a fleet to Lake Garda is of great importance and opens up new opportunities in the world of ClubSwan Racing,” said Federico Michetti, Head of Sporting Activities at Nautor Swan. “Thanks to the compact size and ease of road transport of these boats, we can now organize high-level events on lakes as well. These often offer unique racing conditions, both in terms of wind and spectator engagement.”
“Fraglia Vela Riva is proud to christen a prestigious and futuristic one-design like the ClubSwan 28 on its debut on inland waters: it is an assignment that brings together some of the most important names in international sailing to Riva del Garda and generates great expectations. Despite the uncertain weather, we will do our best to make the experience unforgettable for all participants,” commented Andrea Camin, president of Fraglia Vela Riva.
