18/3/2007 -  FRAGLIA VELA RIVA - RIVA DEL GARDA (TN) - FRAGLIA VELA MALCESINE - MALCESINE (VR) - EXPERT OLYMPIC GARDA 2007. “OLYMPIC SAILING? ISAF SHOULD SAFEGUARD IT BETTER.” THIS AFTERNOON, AFTER HIS RETURN TO THE HARBOUR, GABRIO ZANDONÀ SHOWS NO HESITATION. THE OLYMPIC CREW IN THE 470M CLASS ALLOW THEMSELVES SOME OFF-THE-RECORD STATEMENT WHILE UNRIGGING THE BOAT.

Riva del Garda (TN) - Malcesine (VR), Saturday 17th March 2007 - Gabrio Zandonà exclaimed “Too many classes, and much of the interest is wasted”. Andrea Trani is listening and nodding. “Here at the Eurolymp’s it goes always smoothly. The Lake Garda is ideal, from the shore people can comfortably watch. This year is even better thanks to the temperature, not so much last years, when it was colder.”. “What do you think could be done to increase the interest in sailing, when its not the America’s cup?”. “Only certain classes of international interest should expand, especially the Olympic ones. Otherwise sailing sports will end up facing budget cuts even in the Olympics. It would be also advisable for National and International Federations to provide better support to the economic efforts by organisations like yours.”. We talk with Andrea Trani about the level of the competition. “We’ve got valid contestants here, some competitive crew are missing, but Slovenians are making it difficult for us. They are very good, and there are others just as valid, as the Belorussians. We are playing our game since racing here on Lake Garda is always demanding, even if your opponents are not ready to die in order to beat you. However, one cannot rest on his laurels, that goes without saying. We’ll keep on going, then”. Today the Olympic crafts left Fraglia Vela’s harbour at 11:00 am and competed until 03:00 pm, completing the introductory schedule to the Medal Race.
