Riva del Garda - Pieve di Ledro, Wednesday 23rd August 2006 - The winning teams of the national championships began competing this morning in the Round Robin of the “GrandOptical Optimist Champions’ Cup”, a true final. Teams from Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, England, Greece, Ireland, Holland, Norway, Poland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine and Russia are involved in the competition on Lake Ledro, an enchanting expanse of water only 15 Kilometres from Lake Garda, the largest in Italy. The important title at stake is Optimist class’ “Champions League”. After 16 races, national teams from Croatia, England, Italy, Holland, Poland and Sweden all won two clashes, against Finland and Norway, Spain and Ukraine, Greece and Sweden, Belgium and Norway, Spain and Ukraine and Belgium and Holland, respectively. The path to the semi-finals is still long and it will be an arduous task for the Italian national team. The “Azzurri” are represented by the skippers from Sailing Club Bracciano, who were the winners of the Italian Championship: Simone Spina, Piergiorgio Ciceri, Matteo Bernard and Alessio Paolucci. Coach Stefano Zanocchia is pushing his boys to strive towards a place on the podium, which at this time seems to be within reach. The position on the podium is yet to be seen. Tomorrow the crew will take to the water at 10:00am for another Round Robin qualifying session. Riva del Garda - Pieve di Ledro, mercoledì 23 agosto 2006 - Hanno avuto inizio oggi in mattinata i primi Round Robin tra le squadre nazionali partecipanti al “GrandOptical Optimist Champions’ Cup”, vera e propria finale con protagoniste le squadre vincenti ciascuna i propri campionati nazionali. Sulle acque del lago di Ledro, incantevole specchio d’acqua a meno di 15 chilometri dal più grande lago italiano, il Garda, i Team di Belgio, Croazia, Danimarca, Finlandia, Inghilterra, Grecia, Irlanda, Olanda, Norvegia, Polonia, Italia, Spagna, Svezia, Ucraina e Russia si stanno sfidando per l’importante alloro in palio, la “Coppa dei Campioni” della classe Optimist. Dopo 16 match le nazionali di Croazia, Inghilterra, Italia, Olanda, Polonia e Svezia si trovano ciascuna con due vittorie ai danni, rispettivamente, di Finlandia e Norvegia, Spagna e Ucraina, Grecia e Svezia, Belgio e Norvegia, Spagna e Ucraina, Belgio e Olanda. Il cammino per accedere alle semifinali, però, è ancora lungo, e per la nazionale azzurra qui rappresentata dagli skipper del Sailing Club Bracciano vincitori del campionato italiano, con Simone Spina, Piergiorgio Ciceri, Matteo Bernard e Alessio Paolucci l’impegno è davvero arduo. Il coach è Stefano Zancocchia, però, sta spronando i suoi ragazzi verso l’impresa, possibile, di arrivare sul podio. Su che gradino, poi, si vedrà. Domani, sempre con equipaggi in acqua dalle 10 del mattino, altra tornata di Round Robin di qualificazione.
