Skippers from Holland are currently stealing the show in the Flash class’ European Cup, with five crew occupying the first five positions on the ladder. Dutch contestants are also leading other female competitors, with Sandra Van der Meyden holding the 14th overall position (as top ranked woman). In the Splash class’ World Championship New Zealander Tuke Blair is still in the lead ahead of Dutchman Haakman. Riva del Garda, Tuesday 15th August 2006 – Today has been the second race-day of competion hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva. In this August twin international event, both races concluded as per the regatta’s schedule. At approximately midday, the competing crew took to the water and at approximately 1pm, prepared for the first of the eight starts for the day. Each regatta features four starts, one in the Flash class and three in the Splash one, where contestants are split into groups. The “Ora” was rather weak but still enough to get the race started. The southern wind, which blows competitors sails on Lake Garda, strenghtened between the conclusion of the first race and the operations preliminary to the beginning of the second race. Those winds, along with the boats’ construction, allowed the fast and agile crafts (very similar to those of the Laser class) to display spectacular stern sides. Flash class’ boats have bigger sailage compared to those of the Flash class’ (7 square meters as opposed to 5.5). Dutch skipper Juri Vogel is still leading the Flash class’ European Cup. Just as yesterday, he was first in both races, and firmly holds top position on the ladder, ahead of fellow-countryman Remco Hoeffnagel. The latter, thanks to two second position placements, stole the second spot on the ladder from Hein Van Egmond, today’s third place, thanks to a seventh and sixth placement respectively. Amongst the 64 helmsmen, none are Italian. In the Flash class’ World Championship Tuke Blair (skipper from New Zealand) still occupies the top spot on the interim ladder, thanks to today’s second and first placement (yesterday he came first twice). Dutchman Jochem-Bart Haakman is behind only by one point (five against six), replacing the other New Zealeander Andy Maloney from the second position he held yesterday. After an adequate 23rd placing in today’s first race and a 54th in the second one, Giacomo Grosselli, (first amongst the Italians), takes a step down the ladder and currently occupies the 109th overall position. Riccardo Camin climbs up from 147th to 125th place, while Giulia Angolini descends from overall 148th to 155th. Leadership degli “orange” anche tra le donne con Sandra Van Der Meyden (14° assoluta) prima donna. Nel mondiale Splash il neozelandese Tuke Blair è sempre al comando davanti all’olandese Haakman. Riva del Garda, martedì 15 agosto 2006 - Seconda, positiva giornata per l’organizzazione della Fraglia Vela Riva che chiude anche oggi con due regate valide portate a termine nel pieno rispetto del Bando di Regata questo doppio appuntamento internazionale d’agosto. Scesi regolarmente in acqua verso mezzogiorno, gli equipaggi si sono preparati per la prima delle otto partenze (ogni regata prevede quattro partenze, una per la classe Flash e ben tre per gli Splash che sono divisi in batterie) di giornata verso le 13, con un’Ora leggera ma sufficiente per partire. Il vento da sud che muove le vele sul lago di Garda è andato rinforzando tra la chiusura della prima regata e le operazioni preliminari di start della seconda, permettendo spettacolari lati di poppa alle veloci e agili imbarcazioni (molto simili al Laser lo ricordiamo) data la loro caratteristica costruttiva. Nell’Europa Cup dei Flash (si differenziano dagli Splash per la velatura più grande, 7 mq. contro i 5.5) prosegue la leadership dello skipper olandese Juri Vogel, primo anche oggi come ieri nelle due regate e saldamente in testa alla classifica davanti al connazionale Remco Hoeffnagel che oggi, grazie a due secondi posti, scalza dal secondo posto Hein Van Egmond, oggi terzo in virtù di un settimo e sesto posto. Dei 64 timonieri in gara nessuno è italiano. Nel mondiale Splash Tuke Blair, skipper neozelandese, è sempre sul gradino più alto del podio provvisorio grazie ad un secondo e un primo posto odierno (ieri due vittorie). Segue ad un solo punto, sei contro cinque, l’olandese Jochem-Bart Haakman che scalza al terzo posto l’altro neozelandese, ieri secondo, Andy Maloney. Perde una posizione il primo azzurro Giacomo Grosselli, che dopo un discreto 23° piazzamento nella prima regata odierna coglie un 54° posto che lo posiziona momentaneamente al 109° posto assoluto.
