Al via anche quattro equipaggi italiani nella classe Splash: Giulia Angolini, Giacomo Grosselli e Riccardo Camin in difesa del guidone Fraglia Vela Riva, Tommaso Tortarolo per il prestigioso Yacht Club Italiano di Genova. Riva del Garda, mercoedì 9 agosto 2006 - Belgio, Antille Olandesi, Cina, Inghilterra, Germania, Italia, Olanda, Nuova Zelanda, Polonia, Svizzera, Uruguay, Venezuela, Grecia e Polonia sono le nazioni rappresentate in questo appuntamento d’agosto organizzato dalla Fraglia Vela Riva, sodalizio velico presieduto da Amos Vacondio, che aggiunge, così, un’altra “perla” al suo lungo palmarès di regate veliche internazionali organizzate da quando Vacondio è saldamente al timone della Fraglia. Lo “Splash” è una deriva “One Design” adatta ai giovani d’età compresa tra i 13 e i 18 anni, concepita per “traghettare” i giovani timonieri dall’Optimist verso le altre classi di regata (tra cui il Flash), dunque un’ideale barca scuola e d’allenamento. Lungo 3 metri e 55 centimetri, largo un metro e trenta, pesa 55 chilogrammi e possiede una superficie velica pari a 5,5 metri quadri. Il timoniere ideale pesa 48 Kg, ideale combinazione con i pesi e le misure della barca per un’eccellente condotta in acqua. Il “Flash”, invece, è la deriva ideale per i diciottenni che hanno acquisito esperienza sullo Splash, perché se le misure degli ingombri rimangono le stesse, aumenta la superficie velica che nel Flash arriva ai sette metri quadri. Adatto, dunque, a chi compie i diciotto anni e desidera proseguire nell’agonismo con una barca solamente un po’ più “tecnica” nella conduzione visto l’aumento di superficie della vela. Splash e Flash sono derive molto in voga nei Paesi nordici come l’Olanda e l’Inghilterra, dove regate di flotta con più di trenta partecipanti alla volta sono la norma. 254 partecipanti sul Garda trentino sono un vero record, e c’è da credere che da lunedì 14, giorno in cui inizieranno le fasi di qualificazione per la classe Splash (i Flash regatano a flotta), per chi vorrà assistere alle regate sarà un vero spettacolo. Sono in programma dieci regate, due massimo il giorno fino alle fasi finali previste per venerdì 18 e sabato 19, giorno finale del mondiale Splash e della Coppa Europa per i Flash. 254 racing crafts are ready to challenge each other in the World Championship (Spalsh) and European Cup (Flash). The Flash and Splash classes’ boats are very similar to the Laser class, different only by the sail surface. Four Italian crew will also take part in the Splash class competition: Giulia Angolini, Giacomo Grosselli and Riccardo Camin will defend Fraglia Vela Riva’s burgee. Tommaso Tortarolo will do the same for prestigious Genoa’s Italian Yacht Club. Riva del Garda, wednesday 9th August 2006 - Belgium, The Dutch Antilles, China, England, Germany, Italy, Holland, New Zealand, Poland, Switzerland, Uruguay, Venezuela and Greece will be represented in this August’s event hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva. The yachting club, chaired by Amos Vacondio, may now add another “gem” to its rich collection of international sailing competitions the association hosted since Vacondio has been at the helm of it. “Splash” class consists of “One Design” boats, suitable for young people aged between 13 and 18, which has been conceived to “ferry” young helmsmen from the Optimist to the other sailing classes (as the Flash). Splash class boats are therefore ideal to learn and train in. The boat is 3 metres and 55 centimetres long, 1 metre and 30 centimetres wide, weights 55 Kilograms and has a sail surface of 5,5 square metres. The helmsman weighs ideally 48 Kilograms, a perfect combination with the boat’s bulk and dimensions, as required for excellent sailing conditions. “Flash” class boats, on the other hand, are ideal for youth aged 18, who are already experienced in the Splash class. While dimensions and overall bulk are indeed the same as in the Splash class, in the Flash class the sail surface is bigger and reaches seven square meters. Flash class boats are therefore suitable for those aged 18 wanting to continue competing in a class where crafts require a little more helming technique, since the sail surface is wider. Splash and Flash are very popular sailing classes in northern countries like Holland and England, where fleet regattas with more than thirty competitors represent the standard. 254 competitors are an all-time-high for Trentino’s section of Lake Garda. The Splash class’ qualifying stage will commence on Monday 14th August (while the Flash one will be a fleet regatta): it will surely be a great show for those attending. Ten regattas are scheduled (a maximum of two each day), until the final stage. The grand finals of the Splash class World Championship and Flash Class European Cup are scheduled on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th August. The starting signal will sound on Monday 14th August at 01:00 pm.
