30 countries represented.  230 boats on the water.  345 athletes on the starting line.
An organizational management-machine in-motion: an extraordinary, dedicated team effort born of the collaboration between Fraglia Vela Riva and Fraglia Vela Malcesine.

Just barely finished the Expert Olympic Garda 2009. All things considered, magnetic energy was most definitely at work, luring an extraordinarily strong media interest towards this international event. FIV (Italian Sailing Federation) had numerous journalists, photographers and press agents on the spot. Noteworthy the many, much-appreciated headlines and articles published by local and national press. Ditto for specialized sailing web portals, who, for the most part, dedicated space on their homepage to the event. Internet carried Expert Olympic Garda's exciting moments to distant lands. 30 nations represented; 230 boats on the water, 345 athletes on the starting line. 150 rubbercraft on the regatta courses: coaches...judges...marker-buoy placers...emergency crews. Substantial results that the 2 Presidents of the Fraglia Vela Riva and Fraglia Vela Malcesine, Amos Vacondio and Gianni Testa, go home with today. This week's races celebrate the triumph of Giulia Conti and Giovanna Micol in the Women's 470; well-earned victory for Gabrio Zandona' and Francesco Della Torre in the Men's 470; uncontested domination for the Sibello brothers among the 49er; fantastic series of successes for Australia's Tom Slingsby in the Laser Standard and for France's Sophie de Turckheim in the Laser Radial; gold for Giles Scott in the Finn and for Robert Scheidt in the Star; final victory for Italy's Fabian Heidegger, after a suspense-filled duel with Federico Esposito in the RS-X. Main sponsor of the international event dedicated exclusively to Olympic class sailboats was Expert (www.expert.it), represented at the awards ceremony by their highly trained Research and Technical Director, Mr. Marco Trevi. Videos of the week's action-packed events, and interviews with the protagonists of the Expert Olympic Garda 2009 can be found on the website of the Italian Sailing Federation www.federvela.it/video and on the website www.sailrev.tv.
