During the same days as the Intervela 2009, Fraglia Vela Riva also hosted the RS K6 Summer Cup 2009, from June 29th until July 3rd. 17 crews from Germany, United Kingdom and the USA came together for the event. A winning combination of great wind conditions and good-timing sailors helped to make the event special. The first few days featured winds up to 15 m/second, especially on opening day. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, July 1st, a long-distance "around the island" regatta was held, which gave the RS K6 fleet an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Lake Garda. Then, more windward-leeward course races were held, during the same days as the Intervela 2009 event. Judging from the helmsmens' comments and by the crews' enthusiasm, both in-regatta and post-regatta, the event was a success. The news update - press release posted on the International RS Class Association website (www.rs-association.com, in the section RS K6 from Garda) notes the sailor's satisfaction regarding their decision to hold this event at Riva for the first time. Heather Chipperfield, Secretary of the RS Class Association, who was present in Riva during the entire event, can certainly be proud of the good results. The final rankings are: absolute victory for Ian Robson (GBR 162) and his crew. Following an unlucky first day with damaged equipment, they were able to rack up 5 first-place finishes and one second. British crew of Jonathan Calascione, Tucker Pyers and Mence Myles (GBR 156) took second in the final rankings. Third was the British champion David Hitchcock (GBR 155). Final scores and rankings, and other details, are posted on Fraglia Vela Riva's website (www.fragliavelariva.it), in the section dedicated to RS K6 Summer Cup 2009.
