Entertainment in Riva del Garda: 89 J/24s inaugurate World Championship on a fantastic day

Italy and Lake Garda have brought a world record with the expansion of the number of boats allowed than in previous championships. Six Australian boats, four Japanese, five Americans, a Brazilian competitor have arrived from overseas.

Three trials and US - with Andrea Casale and Giuliano Cattarozzi on board - immediately forward the helm the already world champion Will Welles; Hungarians seconds (J.Bond 037) and USA (Honeybadger) in third place; Italy well with the Superb and Air, in fourth and fifth place

Riva del Garda, Italy - The first day of the J24 World Championships held at Fraglia Vela Riva and scheduled until Friday, August 31 was nothing short of fantastic, with clear skies, sunshine and southerly winds about 12-15 knots which allowed to start off with the 3 races duration of approximately 1 hour each. A sight to see were the 89 boats ready on the same starting line (with committee boat at the center between two rafts/pin) especially with the colorful spinnaker down the wind. Just as spectacular and fierce were the mark roundings, who have spared some contact and flyby. The Americans, who led in the gold of the World Championships held from 1979 to 2017 with 22 wins against four of Italy and Brazil, have already attracted attention as they occupy the first and third in the provisional standings. But in fact, the first in the standings, the 2014 world champion Will Welles, had also on board Italians Andrea Casale (tactician) and Trentino owner Giuliano Cattarozzi. Cattarozzi’s daughter Federica is a champion youth Laser sailor.

Kaster is in the lead with two second and a fifth before the Hungarian J. Bond 037 with the Bala'zs bar Tomai, first and second and sixteenth in the third and final day of racing. Third, US Honeybadger Odenbah with Travis at the helm, more conventional in method. Good Blue Boot with Ignazio Bonanno and the boys of La Superba (Italian champions in 2017) quarters with a third in the first race, followed by 18 and 10; to a point behind, fifth overall, Marco Frulio of Air. Keep an eye on the other surely the US boat "Furio" with the champion Keith Whittemore who with a -31, bounced back with a first and a second; He is currently seventh, but with the inclusion of the gap, subsequent races easily advance him in the standings. EOS, the boat skippered by fragliotto and rivano Gianni Torboli with the bow the vice president of the Guild Vela Riva Paul Matteotti, is a bit backward because it suffered a premature start in the second race, but for Torboli it is still an achievement to be on the line It starting considered that a month ago he was taken ill.

Technical sponsor of the J/24 World Championship 2018 is Black Elk (www.alcenero.com), the mark of farmers, beekeepers and organic processors involved in producing the 70 good foods of Italy, the result of an agriculture that respects the land and its fertility.
