The regularisation of the registrations of the 34th Garda Optimist Meeting started on Monday. On Wednesday the Country Cup and in late afternoon the parade and opening ceremony.

Twinning between Optimist Team USA and the Optimist team of Fraglia Vela Riva.

With only two days to go before the start of the Garda Optimist Meeting (24th- 27th March), families, coaches and teams from all over Europe continue to arrive at Fraglia Vela Riva with trucks and vans neatly loaded with little Optimists, while those coming from further afield will  be able to charter the boats made available by the organisation (30 countries represented). The area has been full of people since the weekend with ,what can only be described as exceptional weather with the wind and sunshine giving its best. This Guinness World record event is also an opportunity to socialise with the other teams from around the globe which are gradually filling  Riva del Garda, Trentino. On Monday evening there was a lovely moment of sporting friendship between the  Optimist teams of Fraglia Vela Riva and Team USA who are here for the Optimist Meeting. There was an exchange of pennants and signatures on the Optimist flag which was made official by the secretary of the Optimist Class Italia Norberto Foletti and Club President Giancarlo Mirandola. This is a stars and stripes friendship which our boys and girls will treasure for a long time to come as will the American team who take home  “a little piece Italian hospitality and beauty”.

In the meantime Fraglia is at work welcoming the hundreds of people who will energise this 34th edition of the Garda Optimist Meeting. The weather forecast for the first few days are encouraging. That is to say that the weather will play a vital part in this festival of juvenile sailing in a region which is a showcase of colour in Springtime.
On Wednesday the Country Cup/ITAS Trophy takes place with a new procedure as in the Olympics with one athlete representing each nation.
