All change at the top: Jamin-Smolders-Berens of The Netherlands take the lead
It's the third day of competition at the Yngling Open Springtime Championship, organised by Fraglia Vela Riva and which ends tomorrow ( Saturday) 5th May. The weather forecast was true to its word with beautiful sunshine right from the first race ( the 6th of the championship). The consistently intense, southerly winds (20 knots), enabled the Dutch crew, helmed by Jamin Maartin on NED 355, to take over the leadership. As was seen yesterday, the strong winds confirmed that in these types of conditions, Jamin-Smolders-Berens are in a class of their own. In fact today they had two solid firsts (after the two of yesterday in steady wind conditions) placing them in the lead with a comfortable 8 point advantage over Austrians Mayr-Knittel-Spaengler who were 4th and 7th today and are in second place overall. The Austrians are literally surrounded by the Dutch with Deen-Oost -Vander Zee on NED 337 6 points behind. Today they were 8th and 2nd and are overall in 3rd place. A good 3rd place partial was taken by Swiss Gregorini-Pascal-Weibers in the 7th race. Third in regatta 6 was the other Swiss crew helmed by Kristiansen ( 4th overall) and a 2nd partial in regatta 6 for Dutch Jan Kentgens-De leenw-Peulen.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is the final day with one race left which will probably not change the positions on the podium. Once again Trentino Garda did not disappoint providing the favourable winds for the competitors to carry out their exciting and demanding regattas.
